Remember the Lord Your God

8 “The whole commandment that I command you today ^(A)you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers. ² And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you ^(B)these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, ^(C)testing you ^(D)to know what was in your heart, ^(E)whether you would keep his commandments or not. ³ And he humbled you and ^(F)let you hunger and ^(G)fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that ^(H)man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word^[a] that comes from the mouth of the Lord. ^4 (I)Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years. ⁵ Know then in your heart that, ^(J)as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you. ⁶ So you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him. ⁷ For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, ^(K)a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, ⁸ a land of wheat and barley, ^(L)of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, ⁹ a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. ¹⁰ And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.

Taste and See That the Lord Is Good

The New Life

¹⁷ Now this I say and ^(A)testify in the Lord, ^(B)that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, ^(C)in the futility of their minds. ¹⁸ They ^(D)are darkened in their understanding, ^(E)alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to ^(F)their hardness of heart. ¹⁹ They ^(G)have become callous and ^(H)have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. ²⁰ But that is not the way you ^(I)learned Christ!— ²¹ assuming that ^(J)you have heard about him and ^(K)were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, ²² to ^(L)put off ^(M)your old self,^[a] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through ^(N)deceitful desires, ²³ and ^(O)to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, ²⁴ and to put on ^(P)the new self, ^(Q)created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

²⁵ Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you ^(R)speak the truth with his neighbor, for ^(S)we are members one of another. ^26 (T)Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, ²⁷ and ^(U)give no opportunity to the devil. ²⁸ Let the thief no longer steal, but rather ^(V)let him labor, ^(W)doing honest work with his own hands, so ^(X)that he may have something to share with anyone in need. ^29 (Y)Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give ^(Z)grace to those who hear. ³⁰ And ^(AA)do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, ^(AB)by whom you were sealed for the day of ^(AC)redemption. ^31 (AD)Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. ^32 (AE)Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, ^(AF)forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Walk in Love

5 ^(AG)Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. ² And ^(AH)walk in love, ^(AI)as Christ loved us and ^(AJ)gave himself up for us, a ^(AK)fragrant ^(AL)offering and sacrifice to God.

^37 (A)All that ^(B)the Father gives me will come to me, and ^(C)whoever comes to me I will never cast out. ³⁸ For ^(D)I have come down from heaven, not to do ^(E)my own will but ^(F)the will of him ^(G)who sent me. ³⁹ And ^(H)this is the will of him who sent me, ^(I)that I should lose nothing of ^(J)all that he has given me, but ^(K)raise it up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who ^(L)looks on the Son and ^(M)believes in him ^(N)should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

⁴¹ So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, ^(O)“I am the bread that came down from heaven.” ⁴² They said, ^(P)“Is not this Jesus, ^(Q)the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^(R)we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” ⁴³ Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me ^(S)draws him. And ^(T)I will raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets, ^(U)‘And they will all be ^(V)taught by God.’ ^(W)Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— ^46 (X)not that anyone has seen the Father except ^(Y)he who is from God; he ^(Z)has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(AA)whoever believes has eternal life. ^48 (AB)I am the bread of life. ^49 (AC)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and ^(AD)they died. ^50 (AE)This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it ^(AF)and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread ^(AG)that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give ^(AH)for the life of the world is ^(AI)my flesh.”
